Counselling & Therapy in Norwich

Hello and welcome to my web site. I am a counsellor and therapist based in Norwich and am available for short, medium and long term counselling work.

If you’re thinking of coming for counselling, I hope this site will answer some of your questions and help you decide whether you might be interested in working with me. Please get in touch if you need any further information, or to book an initial session.

Why Counselling?

While someone’s initial reason for seeking counselling may be a recognised ‘problem’ such as depression, anxiety or relationship difficulties, counselling as I try to practise it is oriented towards the whole person, not just the problem. I believe our so-called problems have important things to tell us and contain valuable information from our deeper self, which fundamentally knows what we need. Contrary to how it might feel, something must be working in us deep down for us to realise that something isn’t working!

I am particularly interested in the personal development aspect of counselling and in experience beyond roles – ways of living and relating that move beyond the ones to which we commonly conform and do fuller justice to our complexity as human beings. Many of us feel cramped by the expectations of those around us or of society in general, finding no easy outlet for thoughts, feelings, fantasies and impulses. I see counselling as a place where everything about a person, no matter how strange or unacceptable it may seem, can be welcomed, valued and explored.

You can read in greater detail about the way I work in the Practice section of the site, and more about me personally in the About section.

In addition to my private practice I have worked at the University of East Anglia’s (UEA) counselling service and at the Norwich Centre for Personal & Professional Development. I also work at UEA as a mental health mentor and have taught there on the postgraduate certificate in counselling skills. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and an accredited CCI co-counsellor.
